ABOUT

Climate Action MontH

Climate Action Month was a month-long celebration of environmental service and education.

Pioneered by EarthCorps and Esurance in 2007, Climate Action Month included 14 hands-on opportunities to improve forests, wetlands, and shorelines in cities across Washington. After volunteering in autumn, volunteers complete the cycle of ecosystem restoration by returning to volunteer sites on Earth Day and throughout the year.

EarthCorps’ corps members – drawn from more than 60 countries – led the volunteer service events. Although climate change and ecosystem degradation are serious threats, Climate Action Month emphasized fun, everyday actions that give everyone the chance to make a difference.

An industry leader when it comes to protecting the environment, Esurance has co-sponsored this event with EarthCorps for the past 3 years.

It all began in 2007 on a routine business trip to Seattle. Between meetings, Community Relations Manager Joann Lee and Brand Director Kristin Brewe toured the city’s parks with some of the folks from EarthCorps. At the time, the concept of carbon credits was beginning to emerge, and Esurance sat down with EarthCorps to develop a way to highlight the city’s trees as valuable carbon sinks.

Carbon Offset Day was the result of that first meeting, and it blossomed into Carbon Offset Week in 2008. This year, Esurance was proud to sponsor Washington’s first Climate Action Month.

Climate Action Month is one of many initiatives that highlight Esurance’s commitment to the environment. For more on upcoming events, and to find out about the company’s near-paperless, green business model, visit esurance.com/environment.
